The Winnipeg Wesmen may just toss the video of Set 1 Friday into the dumpster and move on to better topics.
The Wesmen men's volleyball team was sluggish out of the gates, but turned things on in a big way after that in earning a 3-1 (21-25, 25-16, 25-15, 25-20) win over the UBC-Okanagan Heat in a Canada West conference match Friday at the Duckworth Centre.Â
In a battle of .500 teams, the Wesmen won their third straight match and improved to 5-4 while moving into fifth place in the Canada West conference.Â
Nigel Nielsen hit .500 with 14 kills and just two errors, and
Liam Kristjanson matched that with 14 kills of his own.Â
The Wesmen hit .307, the second time this season they've hit at least .300 and the second time they've won while doing so.Â
Matt Klysh, a four-year setter, picked up his first start as a right side and had seven kills on 11 swings with two errors (.455), while adding a match-high six digs, plus three aces.Â
Keatan Mann had seven kills and hit .462 to lead the Heat (4-5). UBCO's leading attacker on the season, Renn Petryk, was held to five kills on 24 swings and hit -.204. The Heat hit .122 for the night.Â
The two teams will square off again Saturday with a 5 p.m. first serve. Tickets are available online at wesmen.ca/tickets.Â
