On a night when the crowd saluted a historic feat for
Emma Parker, the veteran left side went out and did what she does best.
Parker had 17 kills and 11 digs for her seventh double-double of the season and the Winnipeg Wesmen women's volleyball team rallied to pick up a 3-1 (16-25, 25-16, 25-21, 25-20) Canada West conference victory at the Duckworth Centre.
Parker was recognized during the match for becoming the first Wesmen player in Canada West history to record 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs in a career. Parker, who topped the 1,000 kills mark in a win on Friday, is just the third player in Canada West history to join the 1,000/1,000 club.
And after a first set that the Wesmen (6-4) would rather not remember, Parker and her teammates went to work on finishing off a weekend sweep. Winnipeg, which hit a lowly -.028 in Set 1, made just 11 errors on 92 swings the rest of the way, accumulating 16 kills in the third set and 12 more in the fourth.Â
Winnipeg's middles were productive, too: Haille Bujan had eight kills and hit .400 with three block assists, andÂ
Taylor Kleysen added seven kills, four block assists and two solos.Â
Libero
Taylor Cangemi had a team-high 14 digs.Â
The Heat (5-5) got a match-high 22 kills plus 11 digs from Sydney Grills, who hit .341. Kendall Stephan chipped in 17 kills, and libero Hali Drezat notched a match-high 20 digs. Â
With the win, the Wesmen moved into a tie for fifth with Manitoba in the conference.
