WBB | Wesmen cruise to second straight win to start season

The Winnipeg Wesmen took care of business as expected Saturday and now prepare for their first big test of the season.

Kyanna Giles had 20 points, seven rebounds and six assists to pace the Wesmen women's basketball team to a 73-44 win over the Thompson Rivers Wolfpack to move to 2-0 on the Canada West conference season.

Robyn Boulanger had 14 points, four rebounds and four steals, and made 4-for-7 from three as the Wesmen dominated the Wolfpack for the second straight night.

Raizel Guinto added 12 points, six rebounds and five assists. Julia Schatkowsky, who had 20 rebounds in a win on Friday, had eight points and eight boards.

The Wesmen now turn their attention to the Victoria Vikes, who will play host for two games Friday and Saturday. The Vikes were ranked No. 7 in the Canada West pre-season coaches poll, one spot behind the Wesmen.

Winnipeg shot 10-for-31 from three and 36.5 per cent from the field, but its defence kept TRU from ever getting in the game. The Wesmen openened the game on an 18-3 run and held the Wolfpack to nine points in the first quarter.

Winnipeg led 46-22 at the half.

Megan Rouault had 10 points and six rebounds to lead the Wolfpack (0-2).
