Box Score DAVID LARKINS, Wesmen Athletics
By now, it takes a lot for Emma Parker to set career-highs in much of anything. And yet, she found a new level twice Saturday night.
Parker, a fourth-year left side, had career-highs with 25 kills and 31 digs as the Winnipeg Wesmen women's volleyball team dropped a 3-2 (25-22, 14-25, 12-25, 26-24, 15-13) Canada West conference decision at the Duckworth Centre.
Parker's previous career-highs were 21 kills — set in 2020 and matched in a five-set loss Thursday — and 26 digs, set in 2019. The 31 digs set a new standard for a single match in the Canada West this season.
Ashleigh Laube had 11 kills and 19 digs as part of a season-high 99 digs the Wesmen posted as a team. Portia Switzer had 16 digs, senior Emily Yaeger 11 and libero Taylor Cangemi 10.
Yaeger, making her first season start on her Senior Night, added nine kills.
The Wesmen hit .232 for the night but were victimized by 15 Brandon aces, including seven from Danielle Dardis.
Rayvn Wiebe led the Bobcats with 13 kills and 14 digs, and Keely Anderson added 12 kills and 15 digs.
It was the third time in four matches against Brandon this season that the Wesmen lost in five. Winnipeg (6-8) dropped to 1-4 in five-setters this season.
Brandon improved to 8-6 and clinched second place in the East Division, to matches ahead of third-place Winnipeg.
