WSOC | Raabe keeps busy in Wesmen loss in Calgary

Taryn Raabe made a career-high 15 saves Sunday

CALGARY — Taryn Raabe set a career-high Sunday as the Winnipeg Wesmen suffered a 5-0 loss to the Calgary Dinos in Canada West women's soccer play.

Raabe, a third-year keeper, made a career-high 15 saves but the Wesmen fell to 0-3-0 on the season against one of the conference's juggernauts.

Calgary (4-0-0) got goals from five different players in staying in stride with UBC for the top spot in the Pacific Division.

The Dinos went ahead by two less than 10 minutes in on goals by Rachel Barlow (4th) and Jayden Berg (9th). They would up the edge to 3-0 before halftime on Sofia DiGiacomo's marker in the 25th minute.

The Wesmen played even for much of the second half, but Calgary broke through again in the 79th minute when Layla Tarraf netted the team's fourth goal. Isabella DiPalma rounded out the scoring with a goal in the 90th minute.

Raabe's previous career-high for saves was 13, which she set as a freshman in 2019 and then matched last season in a loss to Regina.

The Wesmen now turn their attention to their home-opening weekend when they host the Victoria Vikes (Saturday, 11 a.m.) and UBC Thunderbirds (11 a.m., Sunday) at Ralph Cantafio Soccer Complex.

It will be the first time since 2017 the Wesmen have seen either west-coast sides, and the first time since 2016 that either Vic or UBC has played in Winnipeg.
