CALGARY — The Winnipeg Wesmen ended a long drought in Calgary at just the right time.
Ashleigh Laube had 16 kills and 12 digs and the Wesmen women's volleyball team won in Calgary for the first time in more than 12 years, dropping the Dinos 3-1 (25-19, 25-27, 25-21, 25-17) to further solidify itself among the tops in the Canada West conference.
Emma Parker had a match-high 24 digs and two blocks for the Wesmen, who improved to 10-5 on the season and dropped Calgary to 9-6 in a showdown between two teams closely placed in the conference standings.
Taylor Kleysen had a season-high 11 kills and hit .450 with three solo blocks, three block assists and eight digs.
Selva Planincic had 10 digs and nine kills, including the match-winner in the fourth.
Sophie Reed led Calgary with 14 kills and Sammi Boag added 10.
Winnipeg held the Dinos to .108 attacking as they dropped their first home match of the season. Calgary lost for the third straight time after going into the holiday break on an eight-match win streak.
The win put in a tie for second place with Mount Royal and Fraser Valley, six points back of first-place UBC and Trinity Western.
It was Winnipeg's first win in Calgary since a five-set victory over the Dinos on Nov. 5, 2010.
