PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. — The Winnipeg Wesmen tried to summon the same comeback magic they found Friday, but wound up with a loss instead.
Playing with fire for the second straight night, the Wesmen women's basketball team couldn't overcome a fourth-quarter deficit and fell to the UNBC Timberwolves 66-64 in a Canada West conference game Saturday night.
The Wesmen trailed 54-43 with 9:03 left in the fourth quarter and tried mightily to get back in the contest. The fell behind 65-55 with 1:42 to go and then started off on a 9-0 run that got them 66-64 with 39 seconds left. They got a turnover on the next possession and a fastbreak that yielded no points but nevertheless resulted in an end-out-of-bounds with 13 seconds to go. After a timeout, the Wesmen came out and got a look for
Raizel Guinto from three that rimmed out. The rebound resulted in a scramble as the clock ran out and the T-Wolves celebrated their fifth win in 14 contests.
On Friday, the Wesmen had to summon late-game heroics to rally from eight down with a 15-0 run to secure the win.
Boulanger finished with 20 points to lead Winnipeg (10-4).
Kyanna Giles had 14 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists, and Guinto chipped in with 13 points.
