WBB | Wesmen go cold in second half in loss to Dinos

CALGARY — The Wesmen were held to 21 points in the second half, and the Calgary Dinos pulled away to snap Winnipeg's win streak.

Pollyanna Storie led four Dinos in double figures with 17 points and 11 rebounds, and Calgary handed the Wesmen women's basketball team a 76-63 defeat in Canada West conference play Friday night.

The loss snapped a five-game win streak by the Wesmen and dropped them to 7-2 on the season while Calgary improved to 9-2.

The Wesmen scored just eight points in the third quarter after coming out of halftime tied at 42. While Calgary only mustered 13 points in the quarter, the Wesmen scored just three points over the final 6:43 of the period.

Kyanna Giles had 20 points, nine rebounds and four assists to lead the Wesmen, who also got 15 points and five rebounds from Raizel Guinto. Robyn Boulanger added 12 points and five steals, and Julia Schatkowsky had a team-high 10 rebounds.

But the Wesmen offence sputtered, shooting 28.2 per cent from the field and 8-for-34 from three.

Calgary's bench outscored Winnipeg's 38-6.

Madison Landry added 14 points for the Dinos, who have won four straight. Bobbi-Jo Colbum added 12 points and Annacy Palmer had 10.

The teams will meet again Saturday with coverage live on Canada West TV.
