KELOWNA, B.C. — The Winnipeg Wesmen served up a fine way to start a new season.
Freshman
Brooke Duncalfe had a match-high 12 kills and the Wesmen women's volleyball team upset the UBC-Okanagan Heat 3-1 (25-22, 18-25, 25-15, 26-24) in the Canada West conference season-opener for both teams Friday night.
Duncalfe, making her Wesmen conference debut, hit .243 and added nine digs and four aces as the Wesmen — ranked No. 11 in the conference pre-season coaches poll — took down the pre-season No. 6 Heat.
Jaya Dzikowicz added 10 kills and two aces and
Selva Planincic had a team-high 15 digs for Winnipeg, which hit .227 for the match. Setter

Taylor Cangemi both had 12 digs.
The Wesmen had 11 aces on the night and 60 digs in beating the team that knocked them off in a non-conference meeting to finish off the U of W tournament a few weeks ago.
Olivia Tymkiw had 11 kills to lead the Heat, who lost just once in their pre-season schedule. Amaya Perry had a match-high 19 digs and the Heat hit .246 for the night.
