EDMONTON — An anticipated top-three showdown didn't go the way of the Winnipeg Wesmen on Friday night.
The No. 2-ranked Alberta Golden Bears cruised to a 3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-21) Canada West conference men's volleyball victory over the No. 3-Winnipeg Wesmen.
The Wesmen will look for revenge Saturday with a first serve at 7:30 p.m. CT.
Liam Kristjanson and
Isaiah Olfert led the Wesmen with 10 kills apiece, with Kristjanson hitting a team-high .304 for the night, second only to
Paxton Koop, who had four kills on six swings to hit .500.
The Wesmen hit .200 for the night as they lost for the first time after sweeping Trinity Western and UBC the past two weekends.
Alex Krykewich had a team-high six digs as well as 28 assists.
The Golden Bears hit .413 for the night and led handily through both of the first two sets, getting 14 kills and eight digs from Isaac Heslinga and 12 kills and six digs from Jacob Sargent.
The Bears mustered 21 total blocks, three solo and 18 assisted. The Wesmen had six assisted.
