LETHBRIDGE, Alta. — A cold spell took the wind out of the Wesmen sails Friday night.
The Winnipeg Wesmen women's basketball team went scoreless for nearly 13 minutes and the Lethbridge Pronghorns took advantage to earn a 68-44 Canada West conference win.
The Wesmen (1-4) went 16:05 over the end of the second and start of the third quarter without a field goal, finally stopping their drought from the field with a
Raia Guinto three with 3:58 to go in the third that made it 46-24.
Guinto led the Wesmen with 18 points and four rebounds off the bench.
The Wesmen were held to 4-for-33 shooting from three and shot 12 of 71 from the field.
The turning point came in the second quarter. After the Wesmen trailed 14-12 after 10 minutes, and pulled to 19-17 down on a
Jennifer Kallon layup with 8:03 to go in the second quarter, the Pronghorns held the Wesmen without a point for the next 12:46, which stretched into the third quarter, a 23-0 run.
Vlada Hozalova led the Pronghorns (2-3) with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Tobore Okome and Piper Dobbelstyn also both scored 10.
The Pronghorns shot 39.3 per cent from the field and grabbed a season-high 50 rebounds.
