The Winnipeg Wesmen are back in the win column.
Isaiah Olfert had a match-high 21 kills and added a career-high five aces as the Wesmen men's volleyball team snapped a three-match losing streak with a 3-1 (25-15, 25-16, 20-25, 25-22) Canada West conference win over the Brandon Bobcats Saturday night at the Duckworth Centre.Â
The Wesmen held BU (6-4) to .129 attacking and improved to 6-4 to pull back into a tie with the Bobcats, UBC, Mount Royal and Manitoba for third place in the conference.
The tests don't get any easier, however, for the Wesmen who will close out their first semester of play with a road trip to Saskatoon to face the 8-2 Saskatchewan Huskies.Â
On Saturday, though, the Wesmen were looking more like the team that stormed out with five wins in their first six matches. They held Brandon to -.045 attacking in the first set and .071 in the second to take a strong grip on the match.
The Bobcats bounced back with 12 kills in the third set and used an early stretch of seven out of eight points to take a lead and stay alive in the match.
The Wesmen won five out of six points in the fourth set to turn a 13-10 deficit into a 14-14 draw, and then won three straight points when down 16-15 to take the lead for good.
Liam Kristjanson had 11 kills and only two errors to hit .375. He also added seven digs and an ace.
Paxton Koop had eight kills on 12 swings with just one error.Â
Brandon was led by Jens Watt's 11 kills.
