Box Score ABBOTSFORD, B.C. — The Winnipeg Wesmen will return home looking to start a win streak at the most important time of year.
The Wesmen men's volleyball team posted a season-high in kills for a four-set match and earned a weekend split with a 3-1 (25-19. 22-25, 25-18, 25-20) Canada West conference win over the Fraser Valley Cascades Saturday night.
The Wesmen, who dropped a five-setter on Friday, return home to take on the MacEwan Griffins Friday and Saturday to start the final stretch of eight matches to close the conference season.
Winnipeg (9-7) sits in seventh place in the conference and, of its final four opponents, two are currently sitting in playoff position with Calgary (7-9) just on the outside of the top eight that qualifies for playoffs.
On Saturday, the Wesmen hit .328 as a team, the fourth time this season they've hit at least .300. They posted 58 kills, which matched their total from a five-set loss the night before and bettered the previous high for a four-setter this season of 55 against Brandon in December.
It was the eighth time in the past nine conference matches the Wesmen registered at least 50 kills.
Nigel Nielsen and
Isaiah Olfert both had 17 kills with Nielsen making just three errors on 32 swings to hit .438. Olfert had four errors on 36 swings and hit .361.
Setter
Alex Krykewich had a season-high five kills and matched his career-high of 11 digs while dishing out 46 assists.
Nimo Benne and Jonas Van Huizen both topped Fraser Valley (5-9) with 12 kills. Benne added 11 digs.
