BRANDON — The Winnipeg Wesmen got just what they needed Friday to snap a long losing streak.
The Wesmen women's basketball team put up a season-high on the scoreboard and won for the first time since the first weekend of the season, dropping the Brandon Bobcats 89-52 in Canada West conference action at the Healthy Living Centre.
The win ended an eight-game losing streak for the Wesmen (2-9), who led 22-8 after a quarter and 45-27 at the half.
Anna Kernaghan scored a season-high 16 points and added seven rebounds and six assists with only one turnover. She shot 6-for-10 from the field and 4 of 6 from three as the Wesmen had their most efficient shooting night of the season.
The Wesmen shot 37.9 per cent from three and 44.4 per cent from the field, both season-highs.
Jazmin Birch scored a career-high 12 points on 5-for-6 shooting in 16 minutes off the bench.
Raia Guinto added 10 points and a career-high five steals, and
Tana Layton also had 10 points off the bench.
Brandon (0-11) was paced by Reeta Tulkki's 20 points and Faith Clearsky added 11. The Bobcats, however, turned the ball over 33 times, which led to 30 Wesmen points.
Winnipeg also dominated in the paint with 50 points to Brandon's 16, while the Wesmen bench outscored the home bench 45-13.
