It will be an unprecedented start to the Canada West conference season for the Winnipeg Wesmen basketball teams.
Â
For the first time, the Wesmen men's and women's teams will play only one game in a weekend to begin their 2024-25 seasons, the conference announced Wednesday in revealing the schedules for the upcoming seasons.Â
Â
The Wesmen will travel to Brandon to meet the Bobcats in their season-opener Friday, Nov. 1 and then will not play again until a road trip to Mount Royal Nov. 15-16.
Â
New conference alignment in 2024-25 means the Wesmen will play the Bobcats and Manitoba Bisons three times, creating the season-opening one-off. The Wesmen will then have a bye week in Week 2.
Â
The Bobcats come to Winnipeg in the penultimate weekend of the season, Feb. 7-8.Â
Â
The Bisons, meanwhile, will be at the Duckworth Centre on Dec. 5, and then the two sides will square off with a home-and-home series Jan. 31 at Manitoba and Feb. 1 at the Duckworth Centre.Â
Â
The Wesmen will play 12 of their 20 conference games in the second semester, and five of their eight contests in the first semester will be on the road.Â
Â
Winnipeg's home-opener comes Nov. 22-23 against the MacEwan Griffins.Â
Â
The Wesmen will go through a four-game home stretch to start the 2025 portion of their season and will play seven of their first 10 games in 2025 at home before wrapping the season Feb. 14-15 at Lethbridge.Â
