LETHBRIDGE, Alta. – The Winnipeg put on a dominant offensive performance, but it didn't shift the standings in the Canada West.
Kato Jaro scored a season-high 24 points and the Wesmen men's basketball team stormed past the Lethbridge Pronghorn 101-78 in a Canada West conference game on Friday night at the 1st Choice Savings Centre.
The Wesmen (15-4) remained in a tie for first place in the Prairie Division. However, with only the top two teams earning hosting rights, the Wesmen still need Calgary or Manitoba to lose in the season finale on Saturday.
Jaro shot 8-for-11 from the field and had 19 points at the half, making his first six field goal attempts. Shawn Maranan added 19 points and Lamar Everd 16. Ryan Luke chipped in with 14 on 5-for-7 shooting as the Wesmen shot a season-best 52.9 per cent from the floor.
Alberto Gordo grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds.
Winnipeg's dominance inside was evident, scoring 48 points in the paint and out-rebounding the Pronghorns 45-29.
Lethbridge was led by Angelo Mbituyimana's 19 points, while Jack-Henry Fox-Grey added 15. The Pronghorns struggled from deep, making just 21.7% of their three-point attempts and turning the ball over 12 times.
