Box Score LETHBRIDGE — The Winnipeg Wesmen wrapped up the program's best record in Canada West history by fending off the Lethbridge Pronghorns Saturday night.
Shawn Maranan scored a career-high 33 points and the Wesmen men's basketball team survived a tough road challenge with a 97-88 Canada West conference overtime victory at the 1st Choice Savings Centre.
The Wesmen finished tied for first with a 16-4 record in the Prairie Dvision, the highest winning percentage for a Wesmen team since they joined the Canada West in 1999.
Winnipeg led 82-77 with under a minute to go but Angelo Mbituyimana hit a three with 44 seconds to go and, after the Wesmen went 0-for-2 on their next possession, Kymani Pollard drew a foul with 0.7 seconds left and made the free throws to force overtime.
In overtime, the Wesmen used a 10-1 run to break an 84-84 tie. Maranan scored seven of Winnipeg's 15 points in the extra period.
Donald Stewart grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds to go along with 20 points, which matched a season-high.
Lamar Everd added 15 points.
Kato Jaro and
Emmanuel Thomas both had 10 points off the bench with Thomas adding nine rebounds.
Mbituyimana led the Pronghorns (11-9) with 25 points. Jack-Henry Fox-Grey had 19 and 10 rebounds, and Shae Gibb and Lu Dalil both scored 10.
