One of the finest guards in Wesmen history has been awarded another conference all-star.
Shawn Maranan, the fifth-year point guard on the Wesmen men's basketball team, was named a second-team Canada West all-star, the conference announced on Thursday. It is the third straight year that Maranan has been named to the conference's list of top players.Â
In 2024-25, Maranan battled multiple injuries and yet only missed three conference games. He averaged 14.8 points per game and shot a career-best 39.8 per cent from three. In addition, he led the country in free-throw percentage at 92.9 per cent, a mark that set the Wesmen program record and ranks ninth all-time in Canada West history.
The Sisler High School graduate will leave the Wesmen as one of the program's top-producing point guards and with his name etched in the Canada West-era record books.Â
He is second in Wesmen history in assists for a career with 424 in conference play and 506 across conference and playoff games. He ranks second all-time in Canada West history in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.454) and is second in Wesmen history for three-pointers made (147).
