In a game of runs, a fourth-quarter flourish led the Lethbridge Pronghorns to a win Friday night.
The Wesmen women's basketball team rallied early in the fourth quarter but Lethbridge found one more gear in the final five minutes to pull away with a 67-60 Canada West conference victory at the Duckworth Centre.Â
The Wesmen, who trailed by as many as 15 and who were down 10 with just over nine minutes to go, put together a quick 8-1 run that cut the Pronghorns' lead down to 57-54. After a Lethbridge timeout, however, the Pronghorns proceeded to score the next six points and held Winnipeg to just three points over the next 2:54 seconds before a
Samantha Meban three with 12 seconds left capped the scoring.Â
Jazmin Birch led all players with 19 points while pulling down a career-high 13 rebounds. She also matched her career-high with three steals.
Carmen Hiebert added a season-high 12 points off the bench, and
Jennifer Kallon scored 10 while also adding a career-high six steals.Â
The Wesmen (2-13) never found their shooting stroke and went 3-for-25 from three while shooting 23.8 per cent from the floor.Â
The Pronghorns made 6 of 18 from three and shot 41.4 per cent from the field.Â
Kamryn Deklerk led the way for Lethbridge (5-12) with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Courtney McKee scored 13 and Asia Wells dropped 12.Â
