MVB: Wesmen make quick work of winless Griffs

In need of a win to right the ship, the Winnipeg Wesmen found the right partner on Friday night.

Off for more than a month from conference play, the Wesmen men's volleyball team got back in the win column with a dominant 3-0 (25-13, 25-13, 25-17) win over the MacEwan Griffins at the Duckworth Centre.

The win snapped a mini two-match losing streak for the Wesmen, who improved to 5-6 and moved into a tie with Manitoba for seventh place in the Canada West.

It was Winnipeg's 10th straight victory over the Griffins, a streak which stretches back to November 2018.

The Wesmen held MacEwan (0-11) to .052 attacking for the match, including -.043 in the first.

Right side Luke Lodewyks hit .706 with a match-high 13 kills on 17 swings with just one error. He also had a match-high seven digs.

Liam Allen was also the picture of efficiency in the middle, attacking at .800 with nine kills on 10 swings while matching Jaxon Rose with a match-high three aces. His kills and aces were both career-highs.

Paxton Koop added five kills on six swings with no errors as the Wesmen hit a season-high .507 as a team. It was the first time the team has hit .500 in more than 16 years.

Spencer Loucks led the Griffins with eight kills.
