Box Score The Winnipeg Wesmen used a dominant first-quarter effort to run away and score their most impressive win of the women's basketball season.
The Wesmen outscored the Lethbridge Pronghorns 27-9 in the first quarter Friday in Lethbridge and scored an 82-56 victory in the process.
Faith Hezekiah had 30 points — her third game with at least 30 points this season — to lead the Wesmen, who shot 10 of 19 from three in handing the Pronghorns (4-3) their third straight loss.
The Wesmen moved to 2-7 on the season and earned their first win over a team with a plus-.500 record in 2018-19.
Farrah Castillo had 11 points and eight assists for Winnipeg, which also got 11 points off the bench from freshman Deborah Nkiasi, who scored in double digits for the first time in her career. Robyn Boulanger also had 11 points off the bench, and Jessica Dyck had 10 for Winnipeg, which led 44-29 at halftime.
Kacie Bosch paced the Pronghorns with 12 points on 2-for-11 shooting. Winnipeg held the Horns to 4-for-21 shooting from three and 23.3 per cent from the field.
