Box Score Faith Hezekiah continued to move up in the Canada West history books, but the Winnipeg Wesmen were left still searching for their first win of the season.
Hezekiah had her third double-double of the season, putting up 21 points and 15 rebounds, but the Wesmen women's basketball team gave up an 11-0 game-ending run to fall 73-64 to the MacEwan Griffins Friday night in Edmonton.
Winnipeg fell to 0-5 on the season, while MacEwan got its first win to go to 1-4.
Hezekiah's double-double was the 21st of her four-year career at Winnipeg and moved her into a tie for ninth all-time for most in a career.
The Wesmen struggled from the field, shooting 27 per cent overall and 7-for-25 from three.
Winnipeg trailed 20-17 after a quarter and the Griffins took a 32-27 lead into halftime.
The Wesmen were able to get back into the contest with a 22-18 third quarter and took two brief leads in the fourth, both thanks to third-year forward Lena Wenke. Wenke hit two free throws with 4:33 to play to give Winnipeg a 61-59 edge, and then put the Wesmen in front again with a three-pointer with 3:55 to play that made it 64-62.
From there, however, the Wesmen went 0-for-6 down the stretch and the Griffins scored the game's final 11 points to pull away with a win.
Wenke finished with 15 points for the Wesmen, and Farrah Castillo added 13.
Kayla Ivicak led all Griffins with 20 points, while Mackenzie Farmer added 19 and Hannah Gibb 11 off the bench.
