WVB | Wesmen make quick work of Wolfpack

The Winnipeg Wesmen wasted little time in getting a nice road win Friday night and added to their hottest start in eight years.

Emma Parker and Ashleigh Laube both had 12 kills, and Parker added 11 digs, as the Wesmen women's volleyball team defeated the Thompson Rivers Wolfpack 3-0 (25-23, 25-16, 25-20) in a Canada West conference match in Kamloops, B.C.

The win is the fourth in five matches to start the season for the Wesmen, who have started 4-1 for the first time since 2014-15.

It was also just the second win in the past nine contests against TRU dating back to 2016-17.

Parker, who was named Canada West and U Sports women's volleyball player of the week this week, made just three errors and hit a team-high .360 while also adding three block assists.

Selva Planincic also had 11 digs and added two solo blocks.

The Wesmen hit .229 and held TRU to .105 as a team.

Ema Palkovicova led the Wolfpack (2-3) with 12 kills, and Olivia Andulajevic had a match-high 14 digs. TRU was not able to get much protection at the net defensively, registering just three solo blocks all night, while the Wesmen had eight blocks total (four solo, eight assisted).

The two teams will meet up again Saturday (6:45 p.m. CT) in a match that can be seen live on CanadaWest.tv.
