WVB | Wesmen can't finish back-to-back against 'Pack

KAMLOOPS, B.C. — A modest win streak for the Winnipeg Wesmen came to an end on the West Coast Saturday.

Emma Parker led the Wesmen women's volleyball team with 10 kills and a team-high 17 digs, but the Thompson Rivers Wolfpack pulled away with a 3-1 (25-16, 20-25, 25-16, 25-21) Canada West conference victory.

The win snapped a two-match win streak for the Wesmen, who had opened the season with four wins in their first five, their hottest start since 2013.

"TRU was much better tonight in all facets of the game," Wesmen head coach Phil Hudson said. "We just didn't execute our game plan as well tonight. Our serve reception was not great, taking away our ability to isolate our attackers. We needed to be much better defensively and when we did defend we were not able to transition to an effective offense. Great learning experience for what it takes to win on the road on back-to-back nights."

Taylor Kleysen and Selva Planincic both had seven kills, with Planincic adding seven digs and Kleysen chipping in with four block assists and three digs.

The Wesmen mustered a .125 attacking on the night, while TRU hit .214.

Brooklyn Olfert had 16 kills and 12 digs to pace the Wolfpack, who also got 13 kills and 18 digs from Erin Mutch.

The Wesmen showed life in a second-set run that turned a 13-5 deficit into a 16-16 tie. After the teams traded points to 19, the Wesmen went on a four-point run to take control.
