WBB | Giles closes career with 5th conference all-star nod

Kyanna Giles will wrap up her U Sports career as an all-star once again.

Giles, the fifth-year guard with the UWinnipeg Wesmen women's basketball team, was named a first-team all-Canada West for the third time in her career Friday, marking the fifth time in her five seasons of play she earned a conference all-star award.

Giles was a second-team all-conference last season with the Wesmen, and had three all-star seasons with the Regina Cougars prior to her transferring home in 2020.

In 2022-23, Giles was statistically spectacular before an injury ended her season in a win at Manitoba on Feb. 2.

She averaged a career high 21.9 points per game, which led the nation prior to her injury, and posted the second-best rebounds-per-game mark of her career at 8.6 per contest. She also averaged 5.5 assists and 2.7 steals per game.

Giles reconfigured the Wesmen record books, as well. She scored more than 40 points in two conference games — and three overall — and scored at least 30 in four conference games.

In a win over Fraser Valley in February, Giles set a Wesmen Canada West-era record with 46 points, a total that ranks third in Wesmen program history. She also scored 43 in a win at Brandon in December, giving her two of the top five highest scoring games in the program's history.
