EDMONTON — The Winnipeg Wesmen will roll into the bye week remaining one of the hottest teams in the country.
Luke Lodewyks had a match-high 13 kills and
Isaiah Olfert had a double-double as the Wesmen men's volleyball disposed of the MacEwan Griffins 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-20) in a Canada West conference match Saturday afternoon.
Winnipeg (8-0) is one of only three undefeated teams left in U Sports. The No. 3-ranked Wesmen are just behind Alberta (8-0) in the Canada West with Sherbrooke 6-0 in the RSEQ.
Olfert had 10 kills and 10 digs for his first double-double of the season and third of his Wesmen career. Olfert, who has hit over .300 in seven straight matches, attacked at a .350 rate with just three errors on 20 swings.
The Wesmen hit .404 for the match, their second-highest efficiency of the season.
MacEwan fell to 0-8. Dating back to the 2022-23 season, the Griffins have won just once in their past 35 conference matches.
Winnipeg, meanwhile, hasn't dropped a set in its last three matches and has lost just two sets over the course of its last six.
Freshman
Levi Unger, who scored his first kill of his career in a three-set win on Friday, saw more action Saturday and had six kills on 10 swings.
The Wesmen will go into their second bye week of the past three weekends, and then return home to face the Mount Royal Cougars Nov. 29-30.
