The hottest team in Canada will take a perfect record into 2025.
The Winnipeg Wesmen men's volleyball team won its 10th straight match to start the Canada West season, downing the Mount Royal Cougars 3-0 (25-15, 25-23, 25-16) Saturday night at the Duckworth Centre.
The Wesmen head into the break 10-0 in conference play and 18-0 overall as the lone undefeated team in the country.
On Saturday, they made relatively quick work of a young Cougars squad whose only threat came in a deflating second set that ultimately went to the Wesmen.Â
The Cougars gained control with a 15-11 advantage in Set 2, and led 21-17 before the Wesmen flipped the switch. Winnipeg scored the next four points and the teams traded points to 23-all.Â
Isaiah Olfert followed with a kill and
Ben Traa an ace to close the set.Â
The Wesmen were once again efficient in attacking, hitting .333 for the match and .476 in the decisive third. They made just 12 attack errors and hit better than .270 for the ninth straight match.Â
Outsides Olfert and
Jaxon Rose spurred the Winnipeg attack with 10 kills apiece and only five errors between them on 40 swings. Rose hit a season-high .389 and Olfert .364.Â
Luke Lodewyks had seven kills and a team-high eight digs.Â
Cody Hudson's eight kills led the Cougars (2-8).Â
