Canada West honours Birch as player of the week

For the first time in her career, Jazmin Birch has earned a Canada West honour.

Birch, a third-year forward on the Wesmen women's basketball team, was named the Canada West women's basketball player of the week on Tuesday after helping Winnipeg earn a split with the Lethbridge Pronghorns.

In a narrow 67-60 loss on Friday, Birch grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds and scored what was at the time a career-high 19 points while adding three steals.

The next night she went and outdid herself. Birch scored a career-high 26 points on 12 of 17 shooting while grabbing 11 rebounds and matched a career-high three steals in a convincing 68-51 win.

Birch finished the weekend averaging 22.5 points, 12 rebounds and three steals while shooting 50 per cent from the field.
