To celebrate their home-openers, the Winnipeg Wesmen kicked everyone out early.
The Wesmen women's volleyball team needed barely 70 minutes to finish off the Mount Royal Cougars Saturday afternoon, picking up a 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-16) Canada West conference victory at the Duckworth Centre.
Winnipeg improved to 3-0 on the season with little time wasted in their first conference match at home, holding MRU (0-3) to .109 attacking while piling up 15 more kills and 15 more digs than the visitors.
Setter
Naomi Unger spread the love around with four players getting double-digit swings and middle blocker
Emily Lavallee getting eight. And in the spirit of Halloween "treat yo'self", Unger even gave herself six attacks with two landing for kills.
Five players scored at least 10 points with Lavallee scoring a career-high four aces.
Brooke Duncalfe and
Grace Vallis both had 10 kills to lead the Wesmen, and right side
Megan Kendziora had a match-high 13 digs, leading three players in double digits defensively. Duncalfe and
Ashley Lawrence both recorded 12.
Winnipeg hit .288 on the night.
Erika Bang and Awien Ngor had seven kills apiece to pace the Cougars. Winnipegger Fiona Brown led the team with 11 digs.
