Box Score The Wesmen men's volleyball team will have the pressure on Saturday if it wants to steal a road win against the top team in Canada.
The Wesmen stayed alive with a third-set win but couldn't complete a daunting comeback against the No. 1-ranked Trinity Western Spartans, dropping a 3-1 (25-17, 25-14, 23-25, 25-21) decision Friday night in Langley, B.C.
Winnipeg, the No. 7-ranked team in U SPORTS, got 10 kills from David Bommersbach and seven kills on 16 swings from middle blocker Ethan Duncan. Garrett Jones added six kills, a stuff block and three block assists.
Winnipeg fell to 10-3, while Trinity Western won its eight in a row to improve to 12-1.
Jesse Elser had a match-high 16 kills to lead the Spartans, who hit .292 for the match to Winnipeg's .090.
Winnipeg out-blocked Trinity Western 8-7.
The two teams face off again Saturday night at the Langley Events Centre at 9 p.m. CT in a match that can be seen on canadawest.tv.
