The Winnipeg Wesmen are on the verge of being eliminated from the Canada West post-season picture after a four-set loss to the UBC Thunderbirds on Saturday.

Michael Dowhaniuk had a match-high 22 kills and the T-Birds men's volleyball team overcame a one-set deficit to post a 3-1 (19-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-15) victory in Vancouver that has the Wesmen on the brink of being outside the playoff picture when the conference season ends on Saturday. 

The Wesmen fell to 7-13 on the season while UBC improved to 9-11 with a sweep of the pivotal two-match series. UBC now stands alone in eighth place in the Canada West, holding the last playoff spot by four points over Winnipeg.

The Wesmen will need to sweep Alberta at home without dropping a set Friday and Saturday and hope UBC is swept in back-to-back matches at Calgary. In that scenario, the Wesmen and T-Birds would be tied in the standings and tied in the first tiebreaker (sets won/lost) and the second tiebreaker of points won/lost would be invoked. 

Daniel Thiessen, Ethan Duncan and Adrian Dyck all had 10 kills for the Wesmen, who hit .181 for the match. Dyck hit .231 on the night and Duncan added 10 digs for his third double-double of the season. Darian Picklyk also had 10 digs for the Wesmen. 

Danny Aspenlieder had 18 kills and Matt Neaves added 11 for the Thunderbirds, who hit .313.

Tyson Smith had a match-high 14 digs.
