VANCOUVER — One of the most efficient attacking nights of the season wasn't enough for the Winnipeg Wesmen to live another day.

The Wesmen men's volleyball team hit .362 and made just 13 attack errors all night but dropped a 3-2 (25-19, 23-25, 26-28, 25-19, 15-11) decision to the UBC Thunderbirds in Match 2 of a best-of-three Canada West quarter-final series on Friday night. 

The loss put an end to Winnipeg's season while UBC advances to the conference semifinal round.

Daniel Thiessen put down 24 kills and made just two errors on 43 swings, hitting .512 to lead the Wesmen. Ethan Duncan added 14 kills and hit .321.

Zackery Thielmann led the team with five block assists and Darian Picklyk had a team-high eight digs. 

Playing his final match, fifth-year setter Mikael Clegg had 41 assists, six digs, a solo block and two block assists. 

"It was a great game," Clegg said. "That's a really good team on the other side of the net. We had some real big swings and they had some real big swings. It was awesome. We came out and fought tonight. Our playoff hopes were on the line and we fought hard."

Matt Neaves had 25 kills to lead the T-Birds, who hit .420, including .500 in the first and second sets and .600 in the fourth. 

Coltyn Lu added 21 kills, six aces and a match-high nine digs.
