Three Winnipeg Wesmen were singled out among the top volleyball players in the Canada West conference in the year-end all-star awards announced Tuesday.
Isaiah Olfert was named a men's volleyball first-team all-star, while
Brooke Duncalfe and
Grace Vallis both earned all-rookie team accolades in women's volleyball as the conference unveiled its all-star selections.Â
Olfert, a fourth-year left side playing his first season with the Wesmen, led the team in kills with 333 and kills per set with 3.62, both of which ranked sixth in the conference. In addition, Olfert set a new Canada West-era program record for aces in a season with 44, a total that ranked second in Canada West and third in the country.Â
Olfert also tallied 142 digs while starting all 24 conference matches.
Duncalfe, a left side from Sturgeon Heights Collegiate, was highly touted coming out of high school and established herself immediately as a player at the university level, starting 23 of 24 conference matches.Â
She led the team in kills with 225, a total that ranked 13th in Canada West and was tops among all freshmen. She was third in Canada West in solo blocks with 13 and amassed 213 digs, which ranked 12th in Canada West.
Vallis, a redshirt middle blocker, made her full-time Wesmen debut in 2023-24 after sitting out all of last season with an injury.Â
She appeared in all 24 conference matches and ranked in the top 20 in Canada West in solo blocks with 10 and total blocks with 57, a mark that led the team.Â
Vallis had 119 kills and hit a team-high .270 for the season.Â
