Helping the Winnipeg Wesmen to a key weekend sweep has earned
Luke Lodewyks the Canada West's player of the week.
Lodewyks, a third-year opposite on the Wesmen men's volleyball team, led the Wesmen to back-to-back four-set wins over the Calgary Dinos and was rewarded with the conference's men's volleyball player of the week award, it was announced Tuesday.
Lodewyks helped the Wesmen snap a four-match losing streak and pushed them back towards the top half of the conference standings in the process.
On Friday, Lodewyks notched 15 kills with eight digs, two aces and 18.5 points as the Wesmen earned their first home win of the season.
The following night, in another 3-1 victory, he had a match-high 19 kills with eight more digs and 19 points.
Lodewyks hit .247 for the weekend, led the team in kills and was second on the team in digs.
The Wesmen improved to 4-4 on the season heading into a weekend series at UBC that starts Friday. Winnipeg is now tied with Manitoba for seventh in the Canada West standings with two matches to play before the holiday break.
