In logging her first career triple-double, Kyanna Giles has been named the Birchwood Auto Group Wesmen female athlete of the week.
Giles, a fifth-year guard on the Wesmen women's basketball team, helped the Wesmen defeat the Manitoba Bisons in an exhibition game Dec. 30 by scoring 24 points and adding 13 rebounds and 12 assists for her first career triple-double. It was just the ninth time in the past 22 years in the Canada West a player has recorded a triple-double, and Giles became the third Wesmen (Stefanie Timmersman, 2005; Antoinette Miller, 2018) in the Canada West era to achieve the feat.
She also chipped in five steals.
In an 89-58 win over Algoma the previous day, Giles scored 23 points and had seven rebounds and three steals.
