Providing an inside presence throughout the Wesmen Classic has earned Mikhail Mikhailov the Birchwood Auto Group Wesmen male athlete of the week.Â
Mikhail averaged double-digit rebounds last week as the Wesmen men's basketball team finished second at the 54th Classic, losing in the final to No. 2-ranked Ottawa.
Mikhailov started the tournament by making his first seven shots from the field and was 75 per cent from the field over his first two games, going 6-for-6 in a 98-59 opening win over Algoma, and then 6-for-10 in a 79-74 semifinal victory over Brandon. In the Brandon win, Mikhailov had 16 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.
Against a stifling Ottawa interior in the final, Mikhailov still managed a game-high 11 rebounds, finishing the Classic averaging 11.3 points, 10.3 rebounds and 63 per cent shooting.Â
