He earned conference and national recognition, so naturally Isaiah Olfert is this week's Birchwood Auto Group Wesmen male athlete of the week. 

Olfert, a fourth-year outside hitter with the Wesmen men's volleyball team, was named the U Sports national men's volleyball player of the week Wednesday, a day after earning the Canada West conference honour. 

Olfert helped lead the Wesmen to an impressive sweep of the defending national champion Trinity Western Spartans in the team's home-opening weekend. 
 
On Friday, in a four-set win over the Trinity Western that snapped a nine-match losing streak to the Spartans, Olfert had 10 kills on 17 swings with just two errors while adding two aces, two block assists and two digs. 
 
The next night, in a stirring Wesmen comeback, Olfert had a team-high 18 kills with four errors on 32 swings, while adding another ace and seven digs.
 
For the weekend, Olfert hit .449 amassing just five errors on 49 swings. 
 
The Wesmen are back in action at home Friday and Saturday when they host the UBC Thunderbirds.
