Orchestrating an offence that produced two triumphant sweeps, Alex Krykewich has earned the Birchwood Auto Group Wesmen male athlete of the week award.Â
Krykewich, a third-year setter on the Wesmen men's volleyball team, helped the Wesmen to take six straight sets off the No. 7-ranked UBC Thunderbirds last weekend as the Wesmen improved to 5-1.Â
Krykewich had 20 assists and four block assists in a straight-sets win on Friday, and followed that with 35 assists and two block assists in another three-set win the following night. The 35 assists are the second-highest in the conference this season in a three-set match.
Krykewich finds himself fourth in the country in assists, eighth in assists per set and eighth in Canada in block assists.
The Wesmen hit .355 for the weekend as a team, including .402 on Saturday. They are attacking at a .302 rate on the season, which is ranked sixth in U Sports.
The No. 4-ranked Wesmen have a bye week before heading to Alberta to take on the Golden Bears next weekend.Â
