For eclipsing a career benchmark and helping lead her team to a crucial sweep on Senior Night, Portia Switzer has earned the MBLL Wesmen female athlete of the week honour. 

Switzer, the lone fifth-year senior on the Wesmen women's volleyball team, surpassed 2,000 career assists on Saturday as the Wesmen beat the Calgary Dinos in three sets, finishing a weekend sweep that was critical for their post-season hopes. 

Switzer had 39 assists, which set a career-high for her in a three-set match and is tied for the fourth-highest total in the Canada West this season for a three-setter.

In a four-set win on Friday, Switzer had 35 assists and 10 digs, her sixth match this season with double-digit digs. 

Switzer is now third in Wesmen Canada West era history for assists in a career.
