A standout effort in two big wins in his first full weekend as a starter has earned Luke Lodewyks the MBLL Wesmen male athlete of the week honour.
Lodewyks, a second-year left side on the Wesmen men's volleyball team, earned his first two career Canada West starts as the Wesmen took down the UBC Thunderbirds in a weekend sweep.Â
On Saturday, in a five-set win and his first career conference start, Lodewyks was outstanding, notching seven kills on 16 swings with no errors and a .436 attacking. He also had a match-high 12 digs and a solo block.Â
The next day, as the Wesmen pulled off the reverse sweep, Lodewyks had nine kills and just two errors and hit .233 with six digs.
For the weekend, he hit .304 and led the team in digs with 18.Â
The Wesmen are back in action at home this weekend hosting Calgary Friday and Saturday at 6 p.m.
