A breakout weekend to help the Winnipeg Wesmen stay perfect has earned Malachi Alexander the MBLL Wesmen male athlete of the week honour.
Alexander, a fourth-year guard on the Wesmen men's basketball team, had his most productive weekend of the season, averaging 15.5 points and seven rebounds as the Wesmen swept the MacEwan Griffins at home.Â
On Friday, Alexander scored a then season-high 14 points on 4-for-6 shooting with nine rebounds and two steals. He followed that up with a new season-high, scoring 17 points on 7-for-12 from the field with five rebounds, four assists and a steal.Â
Alexander made 9 of 10 free throws over the two games, and was 68.8 per cent from the floor for the weekend.
The Wesmen hit the road again this weekend to face the Alberta Golden Bears in Edmonton Friday and Saturday.Â
