Match Boxscore
The win improves Manitoba's record to 5-2-2. Winnipeg falls to 1-7-1.
Both teams showed tightness early, but it was the Bisons who shook the first-game jitters off first. At the 24-minute mark, Elyce Molyneaux tricked the Winnipeg defence by deflecting a corner to Megan Graca, who launched a pass into the box for an open Dubiel, which she headed in for her first of the season.
First-year Bisons goalkeeper Madison Wilford came up big a couple times after that, saving two headers by Danielle Bulloch, one in each half, to keep the Wesmen off the board.
The insurance goal for the Bisons came at the 69-minute mark on an even trickier set piece, this one also off a corner kick. Molyneaux and Selina Speranza had a quick back-and-forth to freeze the defence before another cross was put in for Schur to finish off. For Schur, a first-year midfielder, it's her second goal of the year.
Winnipeg had the advantage in total shots by a margin of 20-19.
Justina Jarmoszko made nine saves in the Wesmen net while Bisons goalie Madison Wilford stopped all nine shots directed her way.
Brianna Krieger and Rachel Dunsmore each had two shots on goal for the Wesmen.
The two teams will meet Saturday night in the soccer portion of the 25th Annual Duckworth Challenge. Match time at the Winnipeg Soccer Complex is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
