Women's Soccer Shutout By Griffins

The MacEwan University Griffins women's soccer team picked up their their first win of the 2015 season as they shut out the University of Winnipeg Wesmen 2-0 Sunday afternoon at Jasper Place Bowl in Edmonton.

Match Statistics

The Wesmen were tested defensively as MacEwan put the pressure on from the start.  In the 18th minute, fifth-year forward Sheena Tracey fed a pass to rookie Griffins forward Isabelle Dobbin. Dobbin beat first-year Wesmen keeper Jarmina Jarmoszko lower left with her third CW season goal, to give MacEwan University a 1-0 lead. 

In the 49th minute, Griffins fifth year forward Jennifer Lam sent a corner kick towards fifth-year defender Marlea Moroz. Moroz's header went to the top right corner, out of Jarmoszko's reach to extend the Griffins lead to 2-0.

Jarmoszko was busy in the Wesmen net, making 14 saves in the contest.

Winnipeg returns home with a split in their weekend games sporting a regular season record of 2-4. The Griffins improve to 1-2-1.

"We did well to get a split on the road this weekend. We are keeping positive and will continue to work hard. The good thing is we can learn a lot from today's game", said Wesmen head coach Amy Anderson.

The Wesmen will return to their home field for two matches next weekend. The Lethbridge Pronghorns will be the visitors on Saturday and the Calgary Dinos will take on the Wesmen on Sunday. Match time on both days is 2:00 p.m. at the Winnipeg Soccer Complex.
