Box Score The University of Winnipeg Wesmen and the Mount Royal University Cougars battled to a 0-0 draw in Canada West Women's Soccer action at the Ralph Cantafio Soccer Complex on a sunny Sunday afternoon in Winnipeg.
Winnipeg's record goes to 1-5-2. Mount Royal sits at 2-5-1.
On a gusty afternoon and with the wind at their backs in the opening half, Winnipeg had three quality scoring chances in the early going, with two of them just sailing over the cross bar.
Winnipeg's Maeghan Lindsay was awarded a penalty kick in the 9th minute, she beat Cougars goalkeeper Cailyn Leeson but her shot rang off the outside of the goal post to keep the match scoreless.
After Winnipeg controlled the early stages, Mount Royal won the battle of field position which allowed Cougars forward Carlyn Neis to get some scoring chances.
At the halftime break Winnipeg had six total shots compared to five for Mount Royal.
In the second half neither team could muster any quality scoring chances as both teams held their ground to keep the game knotted at 0-0.
The Cougars had the advantage in total shots by a 12-8 margin. Fifth year goalkeeper Taylor Thorkelsson made six saves in the Wesmen net. Leeson made three saves for the Cougars.
Winnipeg's next action will be a home and home series against the Manitoba Bisons, starting Thursday night in the Duckworth Challenge at the U of M and wrapping up on home field next Saturday afternoon.
Mount Royal will also be in home and home action next Sunday and Tuesday against MacEwan.
