Wesmen, T-Birds Close Out Regular Season With Scoreless Draw

The University of Winnipeg Wesmen and the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds battled to a scoreless 0-0 draw in the final regular season match for both teams Sunday afternoon at the Ralph Cantafio Soccer Complex in Winnipeg.

Winnipeg with the tie finishes regular season play with a record of 3-6-5 (7th in the Prairie Division). Winnipeg needed a victory to qualify for the post season. The top six teams in each division make the playoffs. UBC completes the regular season with a record of 6-3-5 (4th place in the Pacific Division).

UBC dominated the offensive play in the contest, outshooting the Wesmen by a margin of 22-7. Fifth year Wesmen goalkeeper Taylor Thorkelsson brilliant in the contest, stopping all 14 shots. UBC goalkeeper Emily Moore stopped all three shots that came her way.

Shayla Chorney led UBC with five shots on net followed by Jasmin Dhanda with four.

In the first half, UBC had the more scoring opportunities, taking a total of 12 shots but Thorkelsson stood tall stopping all seven shots that came her way.

Thorkelsson, playing her final match as a member of the Wesmen Women's Soccer team continued her brilliant play in the second half stopping seven more shots that came her way.
