Box Score The Winnipeg Wesmen hopes for a playoff spot will come down to two final matches on their home pitch.
The Wesmen women's soccer team surrendered two early second-half goals and could not recover in a 3-1 defeat at the hands of the UBC-Okanagan Heat Sunday in Kelowna, B.C.
Now the Wesmen will close their conference season with two matches against teams directly above them in the conference standings: Friday against Regina and Saturday against Saskatchewan.
Sunday, the Wesmen were able to pull to 2-1 down in the 69th minute via an own goal off a Tyler Johnson corner.
The Wesmen, however, were done in two quick goals in the second half. Erica Lampert got UBCO on the board less than a minute after half, and Ally Ferronato added a second goal in the 60th minute.
Less than three minutes after the Wesmen got to a goal down, Madelyn Ellis scored the Heat's third goal.
UBCO moved to 3-7-2 on the season, while Winnipeg fell to 0-8-4.
Still, the Wesmen trail Regina and Lethbridge by just three points for the final playoff spot going into the final weekend of the season.
Madison Fordyce increased her Canada West-leading saves total with another eight saves. Emma Terrilon made three saves for UBCO.
