Box Score DAVID LARKINS, Wesmen Athletics
As the season that started with promise but draws to a close with frustration, Amy Anderson was direct in her assessment of a loss Sunday afternoon.
"Regina outplayed us all over the field," the Winnipeg Wesmen head coach said. "We're inconsistent. We're not happy about that performance."
Kyra Vibert scored three goals and the Regina Cougars generated 17 shots on goal and ran away with a 4-0 Canada West conference win at the Ralph Cantafio Soccer Complex.
The Cougars improved to 6-3-1 and will close the conference season next weekend with a weekend doubleheader against Saskatchewan to determine the East Division champion.
The Wesmen, meanwhile, fell to 0-8-2 and are left looking for answers in a season that started with points in the first two weekends but ultimately unraveled.
"That's not what we want, that's not our identity," Anderson said. "I'm used to seeing fighting spirit from them ... and I have full confidence that we'll be back on Thursday. I believe in this team."
To be sure, the Wesmen squad is one of youth with only one true senior on the roster in Chantal Boulet. And Winnipeg has shown that youthful side throughout the season as many fresh rookies get their first taste of U Sports-level play.
Keeper Taryn Raabe tied a career-high with 13 saves for the Wesmen.
Grace Miller, who scored twice on Saturday, added another goal to round out Regina's scoring.
Allyson Ford earned the clean sheet in the Regina goal.
The Wesmen are back in action Thursday when they host the Manitoba Bisons with a 7 p.m. kickoff at Ralph Cantafio.
