REGINA — The Winnipeg Wesmen will head into a key crosstown clash with another point from a weekend series.
Peyton Enns scored two goals and the Regina Cougars defeated the Wesmen women's soccer team 2-0 Sunday in a Canada West conference match at the U of R.
For the second straight weekend to open the season, the Wesmen (0-2-2) were able to salvage a point against a Saskatchewan opponent.
Enns scored the first goal of the match shortly after Sally Bachman was taken down by Chantal Boulet in the box on a break in the 52nd minute.
Two minutes later, Enns found the ball on her foot six yards out and slid it past keeper Taryn Raabe to make it 2-0.
"Credit to Regina, they played well," Wesmen head coach Amy Anderson said. "We were unlucky as I thought we got all ball on the penalty. As a young team, we will learn from this game and be better. Players that made first-time appearances as subs did very well. I am pleased with our team spirit and we are excited to get some of our attacking players back in the line-up soon. Our goal is to be getting points every weekend and we want to be competitive and progress as a program."
Raabe made 10 saves on the day, her ninth career game with double-digit stops.
Allyson Ford made three saves for Regina (2-1-1).
The Wesmen return to Winnipeg and will be on the road to face the Manitoba Bisons on Thursday (6 p.m.) as part of the Duckworth Challenge and then host Manitoba at the Ralph Cantafio Soccer Complex on Saturday at noon.
