WSOC | Friesen finds form, but Wesmen drop Friday friendly

Box Score REGINA — Emma Friesen found the back of the net in an August friendly Friday for the Winnipeg Wesmen.

The fourth-year Friesen, who scored twice last season, notched Winnipeg's first goal of the pre-season in a 3-1 non-conference defeat to the Regina Cougars.

Friesen's goal was assisted by Sydney Butler, the first career set-up for the third-year forward, and cut the Regina lead to 2-1 in the 22nd minute.

The Cougars got out early with two goals in the first 10 minutes. Makenna Sackmann scored in the fifth minute and Regina was credited with a Winnipeg own goal less than five minutes later to make it 2-0.

Allyson Schneider scored in the 51st minute to extend Regina's lead.

Madison Priebe faced seven shots on the Winnipeg goal and made four saves. On the other end, Kareena Anderson made two saves for the Cougars.

After falling behind, the Wesmen carried the play through a stretch of the first half and wound up generating five corners to Regina's four for the match.

The two teams will meet again Saturday (1 p.m. CT, Live Stats) for another friendly before the Wesmen return home and prepare for a North Dakota trip next week.
