CALGARY —
Chloe Zarrillo picked the right time to score her first goal as a Wesmen.
Zarrillo, a transfer from Mount Royal in her first season with the Wesmen women's soccer team, scored against her former team Friday, helping Winnipeg earn a 1-1 road draw with the Cougars in a Canada West conference match.
Zarrillo, who spent the 2021-22 season with the Cougars before transferring back home, converted off a
Jazmyn Castro corner as the clock hit the 11th min struck. The ball fell into a crush of players and Zarrillo managed to find her foot to the ball, sending a shot past MRU keeper Torrance Langdon to put the Wesmen up 1-0.
The Cougars would level things when Tamara Djurisic scored in the 36th minute.
Wesmen keeper
Madison Priebe made six saves on seven Cougars' shots on goal. Langdon made one save.
The Wesmen, who improved to 0-5-4 on the season, are off to Victoria to take on the Vikes in a Sunday matinee (3 p.m. CT) that can be seen on Canada West TV.
MRU's record went to 1-3-3 in the Pacific Division.
